Dancing Classrooms North Texas

The inspiration behind the films Mad Hot Ballroom, Take the Lead, and Dancing in Jaffa, Dancing Classrooms is a 10-week, 20-lesson program designed for 5th and 8th grade students that utilizes ballroom dance as a vehicle to break down social barriers and promote teamwork. The program establishes a learning atmosphere in which all students can step out and shine, increase their self-esteem, and improve mental and physical health attributes. Dancing Classrooms envisions a world where youth have the confidence to face whatever challenge the day may bring and breathe life and joy into schools and communities.

The Dancing Classrooms program was endorsed by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) in 2015 as “a unique and high-quality program that brings learning communities together in positive ways”. Global leader in educational reform and New York Times Bestselling Author, Sir Ken Robinson, says Dancing Classrooms is “an exemplary program that is restoring emotional intelligence, joy and stability in troubled lives and easing tensions in schools disrupted by violence and bullying”.

This event extends the journey by inviting schools to participate in a “Ballroom-Style” dance competition. This is a school community effort that encourages students to take pride and showcase what they’ve learned throughout their 10-week transformational journey on stage with family and friends. We look forward to honoring all the hard work invested by so many.
